As Boston braces for a mixed bag of spring weather, city dwellers can look forward to a tease of warmth before the official beginning of the season. The National Weather Service is forecasting sunny skies today with a high near 48, although gusts might reach up to 18 mph.
But don't get too cozy with the mild temps. The mercury is about to dip come tonight as increasing clouds take over and temperatures drop around 32 degrees. Gusty winds blowing in from the east at around 6 mph will make sure to remind you, spring has not sprung just yet.
Tempestuous weather takes the stage Saturday night, with predictions of rain after 9 pm and fog shrouding the city past 10 pm. The winds will pick up, too, gusting as high as 43 mph, really making sure that umbrellas will serve little purpose. Sunday promises more rain, mainly before noon, with some persistent breezes that could see gusts up to 41 mph.
According to NBC Boston, despite the weekend's stormy outlook, Monday is expected to be the standout with the warmest day, hitting highs in the 50s. However, winds roaring at 20 to 30 miles per hour will likely make it feel chillier than the thermometer reads.
Then comes the equinox. Tuesday marks the vernal equinox, also designated as the official start of spring. It may not feel quite like the season change we're eager for, with daytime highs hovering in the more modest mid-40s and the morning lows maintaining in the low to mid-30s.
Midweek might bring isolated showers and the odd snow flurry come early Thursday morning. Temperatures are pegged to remain consistent in the low to mid-40s, while nighttime lows take a nosedive, targeting the mid-20s by Friday.
Heading into next weekend, there's chatter about another storm system on the horizon, though details remain fuzzy. Bostonians should stay tuned, as confidence levels are still low regarding timing and impact.
