Brockton, MA was rattled by the sound of gunfire when a hail of bullets struck a family home on Hammond Street, in the early hours of Friday morning. Local police, who responded to the incident at 3:34 a.m., found nine shell casings scattered on the street. According to a statement obtained by The Enterprise News, the residence was damaged by the gunfire while occupants were asleep inside, though, thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

Authorities are on the lookout for a white sedan, observed fleeing the scene following the shooting — a detail confirmed by Brockton Police Spokesman Darren Duarte, who described the search for the vehicle. Witnesses and nearby residents, including one Mike Rosanna, were jolted awake by the sound of the shots. Rosanna told NBC Boston, “I was awake. I heard six or seven gunshots and I know they were pretty close from the sound,”

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, leaving a family, comprising a woman, her mother, and her four children, to ponder over the reason for being targeted.

A call to action has been issued by the Brockton Police Department, urging anyone with information to step forward and contact detectives at 508-941-0234.
