Boston College High School, a private all-boys institution, was thrust into emergency mode on Wednesday when a suspicious person set off a rapid police response. According to WHDH, the incident began when a 40-year-old man from Brockton was reported to be behaving erratically on campus grounds, waving down traffic outside the school and then darting in and out of school buildings around 1:20 p.m. Police promptly secured the campus as the situation escalated.

Securing the man, Boston police had already been on the scene when state troopers arrived. Running around and believing himself pursued by unseen adversaries, the man, who was later understood to be grappling with a mental health crisis, was intercepted before he could enter a section where students were present. Following the confrontation, he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment, NBC Boston reported.

The lockdown lasted for barely 15 minutes, from approximately 1:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., as per the statement released by the school. "At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, BC High entered a brief lockdown due to information that an unknown adult was on campus," the school disclosed. "At no point did the person come in contact with students, faculty, or staff. Thanks to the prompt response from the Boston Police Department, Mass State Police, and EMS, the person received care without incident. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 1:15," stated the school in remarks obtained by WHDH.

While the event took students and parents by surprise, no injuries were reported in the incident. The quick resolution of the situation—while briefly disrupting the school day—underscored the readiness of the local law enforcement to handle potential threats. The man from Brockton, waving down traffic earlier, apparently never made his way into student-populated areas, assuaging concerns of a more serious breach of security.
