The pelican was snagged in a fishing line, struggling to stay above water when the crew came upon it. Swift action allowed them to bring the beleaguered bird aboard their vessel and liberate it from the entangling lines.
The heroic rescue effort didn't just abruptly free a pelican; rather, it unfolded methodically on Saturday with BSFR firefighters spotting the bird during a routine patrol. "According to a statement by the BSFR, a crew patrolling Dania Beach noticed the pelican in the water having trouble," NBC Miami reported. The pelican was safely transported to the South Florida Wildlife Care Center in Dania Beach to recover from its ordeal.
This is not an isolated act of kindness by the Broward firefighters. In another instance, BSO Firefighters demonstrated their readiness to carefully rescue a seagull wrapped in fishing line and perched precariously on a utility pole in Lauderdale Lakes.
Firefighters everywhere are known to save cats from trees, but Broward's bravest have broadened this narrative. As CBS12 outlines, this isn't BSFR's first animal rescue. The seagull's plight ended when it was found wrapped up in a fishing line and firefighters were able to safely to complete the rescue.
