Residents of Chicago's 14th District are on high alert following a series of brazen armed robberies. The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert, warning locals of a spree of hold-ups carried out by gun-toting thieves. According to the alert, the suspects, described as armed and dangerous, approach victims in a black 2016 Infiniti G37 Sedan—bearing Illinois plates #9528382—before brandishing handguns and forcibly relieving them of their possessions.
The thieves seem to follow a specific method, always ejecting victims from their vehicles to then sweep their personal items including wallets, bags, and electronics. Law enforcement confirmed that one unfortunate soul was not only robbed but also shoved to the pavement, sustaining an injury to their right shoulder. The incidents occurred on the 2200 Block of North Leavitt Street, 1600 Block of North Elston Avenue, and the 1900 Block of West North Avenue, in the gloomy early hours between March 10 and March 11, when the streets were choked by the gravid silence of the impending dawn.
Witness descriptions have outlined the assailants as 3-4 male African American individuals, likely within the age range of 17 to 25, dressed head-to-toe in black. Standing approximately 5'10" to 6'00" and of slim build, these men, decked in black ski masks, wield Glock handguns sporting extended magazines.
The Chicago Police are urging the public to embrace vigilance. They recommend traveling in groups and shunning the carriage of considerable sums of cash. Facing such assailants, attempting dialogue or physical confrontation is strongly discouraged, as this could spiral into greater harm. The CPD advises parking vehicles in well-lit zones teeming with pedestrian and car traffic, taking extra care at night to deter a repeat of these haunting events.
