Chicagoans in the 14th District, brace yourselves for a wave of police presence this weekend as the Chicago Police Department gears up for a DUI Saturation Patrol. The streets of the so-called Shakespeare District will be thoroughly monitored for signs of impaired driving from Friday, March 8, 2024, starting at 6 p.m., until the wee hours of Saturday at 2 a.m. is deploying its forces in a concerted effort to crack down on not just drunk drivers, but also to enforce a gamut of traffic-related regulations including seat belt and insurance violations, according to the Chicago Police Department.
In addition to targeting DUI offenders, the Chicago Police have speed-detection-equipped vehicles ready to zoom after speedsters, while the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit is set to be on-site to streamline the DUI charge process before alleged offenders are hauled to jail for bonding, the BAT unit also facilitates issuing I-Bonds right there at the scene, further expediting the often-tedious legal maneuverings post-arrest
Last week's operation in Rogers Park resulted in 10 unsafe vehicle violations, 6 insurance violations, 3 seat belt infractions, 1 case of a suspended or revoked license, 2 no-driver's-license situations, the same number for other driver's license violations, a single count of distracted driving amidst 30 other traffic violations, and for drivers, motorcyclists, and anyone else on the road, the zero-tolerance stance on DUI is intended to not just punish but to act as a powerful deterrent, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.
