According to the National Weather Service, today's sunny skies with highs near 66 degrees are accompanied by strong south-southwest winds, which are expected to increase to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon, with gusts that could reach as high as 35 mph.

The breezy conditions and lack of moisture are creating a perfect storm for an "Elevated Fire Weather Risk," the National Weather Service stated. Residents are being reminded to practice extreme caution with open flames outdoors and to properly dispose of smoking materials to prevent grass or brush fires, which could rapidly spread and spiral out of control. This warning is particularly critical today as winds are forecasted to not only persist but also gain in strength.
The rest of the week doesn't promise much respite either, with the weather service indicating a "Limited Thunderstorm Risk" on Tuesday night and again throughout Wednesday night to Thursday. These storms could bring showers and possibly thunderstorms, maintaining a chaotic weather pattern for the region.
Boaters should also prepare to face rough conditions with the National Weather Service predicting "Hazardous conditions for small craft" today through Sunday. Conditions on Lake Michigan are expected to increasingly grow tumultuous with winds fostering an environment not suitable for small vessels. Boaters are advised to take precautions and to possibly delay outings until calmer winds prevail.
Chicagoland temperatures will see wild swings throughout the week, with a near 69-degree high on Tuesday before dipping down to around 44 degrees by Friday. The weekend offers a modest reprieve with partly sunny skies and a high near 54 expected on Saturday.
