Charges are stacking for Tye Rexrode, a former history teacher and assistant baseball coach at Comfort High School, who's been accused of maintaining an inappropriate relationship with a student. The 38-year-old was arrested Thursday, now facing three charges of improper conduct between an educator and a student, with a staggering bond of $200,000 for each charge. According to the KSAT report, Rexrode is still in the Kendall County Detention Center as of late Thursday afternoon.
An anonymous parent brought the issue to the school principal's attention on February 1st, spurring an investigation into the rumors of Rexrode's conduct. Caught preparing to place the educator on administrative leave was the principal when law enforcement was notified of the allegations. The victim, in a statement obtained by KSAT, recounted how Rexrode initiated contact through Snapchat in November 2023 and eventually met with her outside of school.
Details in the arrest affidavit reveal a disturbing trail of evidence, including hotel receipts confirming encounters at the Y.O. Hotel in Kerrville. It was in these meetings that the student, as reported by FOX San Antonio, alleges they engaged in "consensual sex" with Rexrode. Further complicating the case, the student voiced concerns to Rexrode about a possible pregnancy, to which, the affidavit states, he provided her with a morning-after pill.
The scope of the investigation widened as officials interviewed other female students, some of whom may have been victims of grooming by Rexrode. An investigator spoke to these students, uncovering more instances of communication on Snapchat, and is planning to file additional cases. Dr. Yvonne Muñoz, Comfort ISD Superintendent, confirmed to KSAT that Rexrode resigned from his positions in February before the allegations surfaced publicly.
