A teenager has been hauled in as the latest suspect tied to the June 2023 slaying of an 18-year-old man in Houston, police said earlier today.
The 17-year-old male, whose name is being withheld due to his age at the time of the crime, was charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Plezher Wooley on Beldart Street, according to city authorities. The young suspect was napped by the Houston Police Department's (HPD) Southeast Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team yesterday, after officials got a bead on his location.
Wooley was found with a gunshot wound on the front patio of a residence by HPD officers and paramedics who responded to the scene. He later succumbed to his injuries at Ben Taub General Hospital, as per the report. Initial investigations did not yield any leads to a motive or suspects.
Fast forward to July and September 2023, two more young men, D'Andre Vasquez, 19, and Kevontae Marquise Kemp, 17, were collared and slapped with capital murder charges. Both are being processed with their booking photos circulating, courtesy of the HPD. An additional juvenile was previously taken into custody and also faces a capital murder charge, though details on him are scarce due to legal protections for minors.
"HPD patrol officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to a shooting at a residence at the above address and found Mr. Wooley lying on the front patio. He had suffered a gunshot wound. HFD paramedics transported Wooley to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased," detailed a statement obtained by the Houston Police Department.
With this fourth arrest, officials are piecing together the grim puzzle of the night Wooley's life was abruptly ended. It remains unclear if law enforcement is on the lookout for additional players in this deadly act or if the quartet now in the clutches of the justice system comprise the full roster of suspects believed to be involved.
