Bay Area residents won't need to break out the ark just yet, but they might want to keep an umbrella close at hand. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office in San Francisco, the region is set for sporadic rain through Wednesday followed by a drier spell toward the end of the week. "Rain chances persist through Wednesday with drier conditions by late week," stated the NWS in their early morning discussion.
The weather experts noted that today's rainfall should mainly hit areas north of the Golden Gate, particularly the northern parts of Napa and Sonoma Counties. Coastal zones should brace for showers by tonight, but interior regions can expect a lighter sprinkling, "around 0.25-0.75" in the Sonoma Hills with 0.1-0.25" in the North Bay Valleys for today into tonight," the NWS explained. Anticipate temperatures hovering in the comfy upper 50s to lower 60s, not too shabby for a day dotted with clouds.
As for overhead flights and maritime concerns, conditions are projected to be mild. The NWS aviation forecast anticipates "MVFR CIGs this morning with scattered very light rain showers moving through." Mariners aren't left out of the loop, with the marine forecast indicating that "northwest swell continues to diminish through midweek," with southerly winds chugging along before northwesterly gusts pick up by Wednesday evening.
Looking ahead, next week will see a return of unsettled weather, though the forecast doesn't suggest any major headaches. "A troughing pattern looks to establish by early next week with rain chances returning," the NWS described, projecting "light to moderate" amounts that shouldn't wreak havoc on the day-to-day. And for those eager for clearer skies, the NWS hints at a pivot toward drier conditions come mid-March.
Meanwhile, the NWS Bay Area's latest tweet echoes the moderate weather sentiment. It's not exactly a deluge out there, they suggest, so while you might need to flick open that umbrella now and then, don't expect any serious downpours. "On-and-off rain chances into Wednesday. Not a washout by any means but keep the umbrella around," they advised in an X post. Good advice for Bay Area residents looking to stay dry without going overboard.
