A 55-year-old man was found shot to death in a warehouse in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood this Saturday night, police report. The victim, later identified as Ely Martinez by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest in a garage on the 1800 block of North Kostner Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Emergency responders rushed to transport Martinez to Mt. Sinai Hospital to save his life, however, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. As the Chicago Tribune further reports, no arrests have quickly been made following the incident. Details surrounding the motive and circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear.
The deadly incident drew a considerable law enforcement presence to what appears to be an auto detailing shop, as reflected by video footage from the scene. The Chicago Police Department's Area Five detectives are currently investigating the shooting as a homicide, highlighted by the large police activity in the area Saturday night, WLS reports.
Even as police continue to probe the fatal shooting, community members and local authorities are grappling to understand what precisely led to the violent act that claimed Martinez's life. Details of the investigation are ongoing, and the police are calling on anyone with information to come forward. As it stands, no one is yet in custody about the shocking occurrence, and the investigation remains active with detectives from CPD Area Five working to solve the case.
