Mayor Michelle Wu and the Office of Civic Organizing (OCO) have rolled out the dates for the Love Your Block spring cleanups, aiming to spruce up Boston neighborhood by neighborhood. Volunteers are invited to pitch in on three consecutive Saturdays starting April 6, with activities ranging from trash collection to park revival, as reported by Boston.gov. The campaign, a now-permanent city program post-2018 after initially being funded by a grant, not only encourages civic pride but fosters community togetherness.

The first wave of cleanups, on April 6, will tackle Allston/Brighton, Back Bay/Beacon Hill, and several other areas. Mayor Wu underscored the dual benefits of the event by saying, “Love your Block cleanups are a perfect way to enjoy the upcoming spring weather while helping your local community look vibrant and clean.” The Boston Public Library and Boston Centers for Youth & Families will assist by acting as hubs for tool distribution. April 20 will see action in neighborhoods like Charlestown, East Boston, and the North End among others, while the final day, April 27, focuses on places like Roxbury and Jamaica Plain.

Last year, community involvement led by the Friends of Blakemore Bridge exemplified the spirit of the initiative, with 14 volunteers from the Roslindale neighborhood's Prospect Hill and Mt. Hope areas mobilizing to clean a local pedestrian bridge. Co-founder Meri Bond shared their success, saying, “By the end of the day not only had they removed the leaves, litter, bottles and nips that had been accumulating along the Bridge for years, they had enjoyed meeting one another and working together for a common purpose.”

Those eager to lead a cleanup can request tools until March 22, the city providing essentials such as trash bags, gloves, and brooms. Brianna Millor, Chief of the Community Engagement Cabinet, shared her enthusiasm: “Love Your Block is an event that I look forward to the Mayor’s Office of Civic Organizing leading every year." She sees it as a collaborative effort between the government and citizens to enhance the beauty, of Boston's many neighborhoods. To become a part of this spring's beautification effort as a host or a volunteer, interested individuals can sign up via the Love Your Block application.
