Commuters in Miami-Dade will have to find alternative routes today as the Metromover shuts down for construction. According to a release by the Miami-Dade County, the popular transit system will cease operation beginning the morning of March 9 until 2:00 p.m. This temporary shutdown is due to a construction project at Miami Tower which, while not affiliated with the county or Miami-Dade Transit, falls under FAA oversight for safety measures.
While the Metromover is out of service, Miami-Dade County has arranged a free bus shuttle to to quickly ferry passengers between stations. Despite the inconvenience, this pause in service won't halt progress on the Metromover. Ongoing work on the Metromover Upgrade Project, which aims to enhance the system over several years, will continue during this time.
