The city is banking on his experience to enhance the services at its four libraries and online.
The Virginia native, whose passion for libraries was kindled back in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, returns to a familiar zip code. Beck's litany of credentials also features a bachelor's degree from Elon University and a Master of Library Science from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. "Being back in Scottsdale feels like coming home, it really does," Beck expressed in a statement acquired by ScottsdaleAZ.gov.
Ensuring free access to knowledge stands at the core of Beck's mission, and this commitment seems to have reverberated well with city officials. "Scottsdale libraries are centers of community gatherings, childhood excitement, teen exploration, core education, career resources, art exhibits and occasional mysteries, drama and so much more," Scottsdale Mayor David D. In a venture that promises to make each library visit count, Beck is set to meet all 118 library staff members.
