A child's body was discovered in the Tennessee River on Wednesday, sparking an investigation by local authorities, according to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office. Found near Highway 412, the body is currently not linked to any missing persons case on record.
"The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is working alongside the sheriff’s office on the case," said the Perry County Sheriff's Office, reported by WSMV. Efforts are also in progress to recover a second body, presumed to be an adult, from the same river.
Sheriff Nick Weems informed News 2 that additional resources have been called in to aid in the search. A press conference held on Wednesday afternoon is expected to shed more light on this tragic discovery.
In an attempt to identify the child, while they keep searching for the adult's body, the community has been left in a state of mourning. "This is not related to any ‘ongoing missing persons case’," said Sheriff Weems, in an interview with 101.3 WOPC. As the investigation continues, official updates are anticipated to be shared with the public.
