According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department media release earlier today, the victim, identified as 48-year-old Michael Fernandez from White House, perished at the scene when his Chevrolet Silverado swerved across the center line and slammed directly into an oncoming Volkswagen Taos yesterday evening.

The collision's force sent the Volkswagen careening down an embankment before it smashed through a fence and came to a halt. Occupying the Volkswagen was a 54-year-old, who despite the chaos, survived with injuries deemed not life-threatening and was subsequently transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.
Investigators are delving into the cause of the accident, including the crucial question of whether impairment played a role; toxicology tests are expected to shed light on this aspect, shedding light on what may have precipitated this fateful swerve.
