A lineup stacked with some of country and Americana music's biggest names will fill the Ryman Auditorium stage next Monday for the 30th annual Concert for Cumberland Heights, a benefit show titled “Riding with the King: A Tribute to John Hiatt.” The concert, set for November 9, will celebrate the singer-songwriter who helped launch the event three decades ago, and he's expected to make a special appearance of his own.
The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the historic venue, according to Ryman Auditorium. Performers announced for the tribute include Keith Urban, Rosanne Cash, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Lilly Hiatt, Shawn Colvin, Robert Earl Keen, Pat McLaughlin, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Emmylou Harris and Jason Isbell, per the venue's listing. It's a roster that reflects just how deeply Hiatt's songwriting has threaded through Nashville's music community over the years.
A Night Built Around Hiatt's Legacy
John Hiatt helped get this concert off the ground 30 years ago as a way to support adolescents and young adults seeking recovery, according to Cumberland Heights. Jay Crosson, CEO of Cumberland Heights, discussed the 30th annual concert, as reported by NewsChannel 5 Nashville. This year's edition also lands alongside Cumberland Heights' 60th anniversary, the venue notes.
Money raised from the concert goes to the John Hiatt Fund for Adolescent and Young Adult Treatment, which supports programs and patient scholarship assistance at Cumberland Heights. More specifically, proceeds provide scholarship support for ARCH Academy and Cumberland Heights' Young Adult programs, the recovery organization says on its site.
Three Decades, Millions Raised
Since the concert series began in 1996, it has raised more than $3.8 million for the John Hiatt Fund, according to Cumberland Heights. That track record has helped cement the show's reputation as the longest-running benefit concert in Ryman history, the organization says.
For a night built around one songwriter's catalog, the guest list reads like a cross-section of Nashville royalty — a fitting tribute to an artist whose songs have been covered by generations of performers even as he keeps writing new ones. Tickets and additional details for the November 9 show are available through the Ryman's event listing.
