A tragic mishap unfolded in Edgehill last night when a mother says she accidentally shot and killed her 13-year-old daughter. WKRN said the incident occurred inside their home in the 1200 block of Edgehill Avenue at about 9:58 p.m.
First responders, trying to save the young girl's life, gave immediate aid and rushed her to Vanderbilt's Pediatric Emergency Room. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to a single gunshot wound, as detailed by WSMV. The mother reportedly told investigators that the fatal shot was discharged from her .40 caliber pistol, which was unholstered and carried in her purse, went off accidentally while she reached for her keys.
While the shocking sequence of events continues to be pieced together, authorities have not yet filed any charges against the mother. The Metro Nashville Police Department is leading a thorough investigation into the shooting, which is still active.
As Nashville grapples with this sudden and sorrowful event, additional information from the ongoing investigation has yet to be disclosed. The mother's claim, as of now, stands as the backdrop to a young life that ended prematurely.
