Homicide detectives are knee-deep in an investigation to crack the case of a security guard shot dead during an apparent confrontation with car burglars outside a Murfreesboro Pike nightclub. The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours outside Illuzion Bar and Lounge, according to the Nashville Police Department.

The victim has been identified as Maurice Thomas, Jr., 33, who was patrolling the lot when he reportedly came across the criminals. Investigators later found three vehicles in the parking lot that had been broken into, which have since been seized and are being scoured for evidence by specialists. As the search for the heartless shooters goes on, authorities are urging anyone with information to step forward and help.

Thomas was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center following the shooting but despite efforts to save him, he died due to the severe wounds inflicted.
