
Police in the suburb of Schaumburg have launched a manhunt for an armed bank robber, following a heist that occurred Wednesday afternoon. According to reports by the Chicago Sun-Times, a male suspect armed with a handgun entered the US Bank on 60 S. Meacham Road around 1:25 p.m., making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Following the robbery, the assailant fled on foot, last seen heading south on Meacham Road. As provided by the Chicago Sun-Times, he was described as sporting a brown Carhartt jacket, black shoes with white soles, and toting a black Under Armour backpack. In response, police have advised residents nearby to shelter in place and issued a warning against approaching the suspect, urging anyone with information to contact the authorities by calling 911 or (312) 421-6700.
Offering further details on the community's response, NBC Chicago reported that the shelter-in-place alert was specifically targeted at residents in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene. Additionally, drivers were instructed to give a wide berth to the area due to the significant presence of law enforcement personnel.
The situation prompted an operation that had a noticeable impact on the typical afternoon routine, with the area being declared clear by detectives shortly before 4 p.m., as mentioned by NBC Chicago. However, detectives were still active at the scene conducting further investigation.
