A quick-acting 911 dispatcher in Arizona has been honored for using advanced technology to save a woman's life after a chilling call in September last year, sources say, according to a report by 12 News. Derrik Gregg, the communications supervisor for the Scottsdale Police Department, received a hang-up call, but his instincts kicked in, and he followed up. Upon calling her back, the woman said she'd call back but her immediate disconnection raised red flags for the experienced dispatcher.
Gregg employed the RapidDeploy mapping software which shows "breadcrumbs" of the caller's location and noticing that the woman's phone was on the move, he surmised she was in a car, a situation he later described, according to 12 News as "obviously a domestic situation at that point.” Gregg's rapid response and technological prowess led to police tracking down the vehicle and saving the woman, who had been run over by her ex-boyfriend.
In another incident, police are investigating a shooting at a hotel in Henry County where a man was hospitalized with gunshot wounds, 11Alive reports. Authorities arrived at the Quality Inn & Suites in McDonough shortly before midnight, where they found an adult male with gunshot wounds, per Henry County Police, as detailed by 11Alive.
