Scottsdale is positioning itself as a leader in the sustainability game with the City Council set to dig into its draft sustainability plan come March 19, according to a recent update. The City Hall Kiva will be home to deep-dives on energy, waste, and extreme heat – topics the council has been sweating over since November.
Aiming to lock in a comprehensive roadmap chalked full of specific action steps, Scottsdale's Community Sustainability Plan aligns with their 2035 General Plan. The city is brimming with commitment to environmental stewardship, enough so to involve the public in the process. Parties interested in the city's green future or who want to check out the detailed agenda can pull up Scottsdale's official website and search 'sustainability plan' for a piece of the action.
In the spirit of Women's History Month, the Scottsdale Public Library is throwing a spotlight on the ladies who shaped the city. With exhibits and programs funded by The Women's Collective, the library is host to a revelry of historical contributions made by women. The Civic Center Library houses a pictorial homage in "Scottsdale Public Library Celebrates the Women Who Built Scottsdale," running until March 30, and the "Inspired Imaginations: Women of Consequence" art and poetry installation until March 31.
Furthermore, Gloria Feldt is setting the stage for a program on the power of women's stories - at the Civic Center Library, 10:30 a.m. March 21. The storytelling event is presented in collaboration with Scottsdale's Human Relations Commission, showcasing how defining personal narratives can be a form of empowerment for women, whose histories are often sidelined.
Scottsdale's City Hall is where you can also find yourself doing a bit of good – in the form of blood donations. Project Management Assistant Mya Trivison, 2023 Impact Award winner by Vitalant, has facilitated nine blood drives that collected 239 donations last year, stated the update. After seeing her own parents' lives buoyed by blood donations, Trivison's carrying on her mission into 2024 with several more blood drives at Scottsdale City Hall.
