San Antonio's grim dealing with a drug transaction turned homicide doubled down with the arrest of a second suspect, Jakob Kawazoe, in the December murder of 20-year-old Juan Guerra. FOX San Antonio reported that Kawazoe, 26, from the Pleasanton area, now faces murder charges following his apprehension, along with earlier-arrested suspect Angus Ockels-Talbott, 32.
The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) detailed that both Kawazoe and Ockels-Talbott were involved in a would-be drug deal with Guerra over marijuana sales that turned south, leading to gunshots which fatally wounded the young man. Guerra's girlfriend accompanied him to Pearsall Park for the transaction, however, after a sequence of murky events, including a trip to an ATM and an exchange of words, Guerra was shot in the head and later declared dead at a nearby hospital, a grave outcome for a simple deal gone awry.
Guerra and his girlfriend originally met the duo in their Honda Odyssey at Pearsall Park, located in the 5000 block of Old Pearsall Road, for the sale. According to KSAT, an unexpected detour ensued as Ockels-Talbott claimed he needed to withdraw money, only to return empty-handed citing he couldn't find his ATM card. The group then returned to the park where the night took its ultimate tragic turn.
Further investigation into the incident painted a more premeditated picture. Messages recovered from Ockels-Talbott's Instagram account and phone, suggested intentions to rob the unsuspecting Guerra, leading police to put the dots together. GPS data cemented the suspects' presence at the scene of the crime, as per SAPD's findings. Notwithstanding, both suspects despite the weight of the current allegations against them, did not have prior criminal records.
Officials reported that Guerra's girlfriend corroborated the sequence of events and identified Ockels-Talbott to the officers. The duo now behind bars, SAPD continues to piece together the harrowing details of the case.
