In a chilling incident in Springfield, a 12-year-old was found involved in making school shooting threats, causing law enforcement to swoop into action. The Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, alongside Massachusetts State Police and ATF agents, executed a search warrant at the juvenile's residence, leading to multiple arrests and the confiscation of firearms and ammunition.
Originally obstructed by the youth's mother, Lilly Casanova, who refused officers entry into her home without a proper warrant, the situation escalated with the discovery of a video. Found after a futile attempt to perform a voluntary check for firearms, showed the minor brandishing a gun, authorities said. Neither the child nor any residents of the home possess a firearms license, prompting urgent police intervention.
With a search warrant in hand obtained after the damning video evidence surfaced, law enforcement entered the White Street apartment at around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. They detained two men, later identified as Ramon Gonzalez, 24, and Nathan Gonzalez, 20, during the operation.
A detailed sweep of the home unearthed two large-capacity firearms and an array of ammunition, including a loaded gun with 14 rounds, a second firearm accompanied by another high-capacity magazine, and additional ammo totaling 81 rounds, Springfield Police reported. The cache of weapons and ammunition were found improperly stored, within easy reach of a minor.
The police secured the arrests of both Ramon and Nathan Gonzalez on multiple firearms-related charges. Ramon faces accusations including possession of firearms and ammunition without proper identification, as well as the improper storage of firearms near a minor. Nathan was similarly charged with possession and improper storage violations. Lilly Casanova is also facing criminal charges in connection to the case.
