It's that time of the year again when the kids get restless and the parents look for ways to keep them busy. The City of Surprise has opened registration for its Summer Break Camp, set to kick off on May 28 and wrap up on July 31. Offering a plethora of activities from arts and crafts to sports and field trips, the camp is designed for children entering 1st through 8th grade.

Parents can drop their kids off Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Camp locations are divided by grade levels, with the Countryside Recreation Center hosting kids in grades 1st through 4th, and the Sierra Montana Recreation Center welcoming those in grades 5th through 8th. According to details posted on Surprise's official website, spots are limited and expected to fill up fast.

The camp isn't just an avenue for fun but also a way for parents to ensure their children are under supervision during the summer months. With a registration fee of $30 for residents and $50 for non-residents, the camp also charges a daily fee of $30 for residents and $34 for non-residents. Those preferring to book the entire week pay $150 or $170, respectively. Payment for registration and the first week of camp are due upon registration.

Residents in Surprise have the advantage of early registration starting March 25, while non-residents can sign their kids up beginning April 1. Parents looking to secure a spot for their child can download a registration packet online and turn it in at the Parks & Recreation office at 15960 N. Bullard Ave. However, due to Spring Training, registration might be a bit tricky with a full closure of Bullard Avenue from Paradise Lane to Tierra Buena until March 30. The department provided a parking and closure map for savvy navigators. For additional information, concerns, or questions, the city invites parents to reach out to Shelby Fenwick, which they can do via call at 623.222.1031 or email at [email protected].
