A violent altercation spiraled into chaos at Ocean Beach on Tuesday night when a 22-year-old man allegedly ran over his girlfriend with her own car and was subsequently shot, authorities say. The San Diego Police Department reported that an intensive investigation is underway following the incident that left two people hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The dispute, described in the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, began in the parking lot of the OB pier among the couple and the woman's ex-boyfriend, who was apparently trying to mediate. According to the official statement, the 22-year-old man, in a fit of rage, reversed the vehicle, striking his girlfriend. Moments after the tumultuous event, witnesses reported hearing two gunshots.
The boyfriend then drove himself to the 2100 block of Bacon Street, where he flagged down authorities, suffering from a gunshot wound to the collarbone. The SDPD confirmed, "Two bullet holes were found in the car." Police were dispatched to both the scene of the assault and the location where the shooting victim was found. Despite their efforts, no firearm was located in the vicinity of either crime scene.
