Big changes are rolling into the Music City, as WeGo Public Transit preps for a major revamp designed to steer North Nashville to smoother travels. The heart of this transport transformation is the nearing completion of the Dr. Ernest “Rip” Patton Jr. Transit Center, with 80% of construction already in the rearview, reported News 2.
According to a WeGo Public Information Office Eric Melcher, who spilled the details in an interview with News 2, the upcoming improvements are not only about ease and efficiency but also ushering in new connections for the community. "It’s going to offer people here in North Nashville new connections and a whole bunch of different ways to get around," Melcher said, hinting at the broader significance the enhancements will have on daily commutes. Meanwhile, Mix 929 underscored the positive changes slated to debut on March 31, providing North Nashville with fresh ways to navigate their neck of the woods.
One of the banner features is the introduction of the 71 Trinity Lane crosstown route. Promising a seamless ride from East Nashville and Gallatin Pike straight to the transit center, this route will give patrons a chance to bypass downtown traffic—a boon for those looking to trim down their transit time. "One thing of the big new things that’s going to come out of this will be a new crosstown route, which is 71 Trinity Lane," Melcher told News 2 in a moment of clarity amidst the buzz of impending progress.
The enhancements come with benefits for brains as well as feet, with Vanderbilt University's community getting in on the action. The institution's faculty and students enjoy zero fare on WeGo local and regional buses, plus the WeGo Star, with their Commodore Card, as told by Vanderbilt News. This perk isn't just for the daily study grind but extends to all hours and directions under WeGo’s wing.
