West Palm Beach drivers, brace yourselves for detours. The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) is tackling a water main repair that's got traffic tied up at a key intersection. Crews rolled up their sleeves on Old Okeechobee Rd. between N. Florida Mango Rd. and Donna Rd. at 5 p.m. yesterday, effectively shutting down east- and westbound traffic, announced PBCWUD.
Expect to quickly reroute as the east- and westbound lanes are closed for the duration of the work. Motorists are going to have to divert either north or south on N. Florida Mango Rd. PBCWUD is keeping teams on-site round-the-clock until this inconvenience is wrapped up. According to a recent announcement, "All necessary devices will be in place to redirect traffic as needed."
No end date's been stamped on this project yet, so commuters will need to adjust their travel plans for a bit longer. PBCWUD is calling on everyone to plan ahead to avoid getting caught in the backup. The department seems to be on top of things and hasn't reported any impact on residents or businesses so far.
However, if the situation goes south and a boil water notice becomes necessary, PBCWUD vows to notify those affected immediately. They've already apologized for the headache this may cause, according to their statement, and they thank the community for its patience while they scramble to finish up as quickly and safely as possible. So sit tight, West Palm Beach — the end result will be a fixed water main and, hopefully, smoother rides ahead.
