A tragic traffic incident took the life of a motorcyclist in Lake Worth Beach, Fla., yesterday night, involving a suspected drunk driver and a law enforcement vehicle. Jorge Alberto Miranda De Leon, a 27-year-old West Palm Beach man, tragically lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a Dodge Charger, according to authorities.
The crash happened on Dixie Highway near 4th Avenue North, as reported by both WPTV and WPBF. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office detailed that De Leon, was wearing a helmet when his 2018 Kawasaki 650 motorcycle was struck by the Dodge Charger, which then proceeded to collide with a stationary sheriff's office vehicle, a 2015 Ford Interceptor sedan.
The driver of the Charger, who has yet to be publicly identified, is under suspicion of being under the influence of either alcohol or drugs at the time of the deadly encounter. A passenger in the Charger, a 17-year-old girl from Boynton Beach, incurred minor injuries. The sheriff’s office vehicle involved in the accident was stopped at the intersection, and the driver of the sheriff's vehicle was unharmed according to a statement obtained by WPTV.
Officials pronounced De Leon dead at the scene, while the Dodge Charger driver escaped physical injury. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is still awaiting blood test results to confirm the presence, of alcohol or drugs in the driver's system as suspicion of DUI looms over the incident.
