Brace yourselves, Wright County drivers—the bulldozers are rolling in. Come March 25, a stretch of County Highway 35 is shutting down for a substantial facelift, and it's gonna be a maze out there. The Wright County Highway Department is gearing up to divert traffic through a detour set to snake along 30th Street NE and CSAH 19, complete with a freshly installed temporary signal just to keep things moving.

Starting next Monday, a pivotal piece of CSAH 35 (Kahl Avenue NE) will be off-limits to through traffic, the department detailed, citing the area from 30th Street NE right up to where it forks at St. Michael Parkway and Central Avenue W. However, they're making sure you can still hit your favorite shops and houses by keeping the driveway and intersection access open. And for those of you dwelling or dabbling west of 30th Street NE, all the way to Jamison Avenue NE—you're in luck, sorta. Your road stays open but with the kind of delays that'll make you wish you'd stayed in bed.

It's not a quick fix, either. This project is set to run until the leaves start to fall in late 2024. So while the long haul might bring a smoother ride and prettier paths, the road there sure won't be. For those with a burning question or in dire need of more intel, feel free to shoot an email to Sara Buermann, Wright County's very own Assistant Highway Engineer. She's got the answers at [email protected], as posted on the county's official notice.

There’s no sugarcoating it—commuting is about to become that daily grind, just a whole lot grind-her. But hey, progress comes at a price. As they say, you've got to break a few eggs to make an omelet, or in this case, tear up a bit of asphalt to make a highway. So, buckle up, Wright County, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
