A gas line was struck by workers Tuesday afternoon in west Austin, sparking a response from the Austin Fire Department (AFD) and triggering a hazmat situation, according to officials. The incident occurred in the 2900 block of Wade Avenue, not far from the Tarrytown neighborhood, prompting AFD to caution residents to steer clear of the area.
At approximately 3 p.m., the call came in, and it was later confirmed that a three-inch cast iron gas line had been hit. Responding swiftly, the AFD managed to slow and contain the gas leak to a small area within the front yard, reported AFD via X. Despite the accident occurring in the bustling part of the city, no evacuations or injuries have been reported at this time.
