A hit-and-run in Beverly has left a woman seriously injured and a man in handcuffs Sunday night. Beverly Police responded to 375 Rantoul Street at around 10:15 p.m. to find the injured pedestrian, as reported by NBC Boston.
After the woman had been rushed to Beverly Hospital with injuries described as severe, she required further care and was subsequently flown to a Boston hospital, witnesses at the scene provided a description of the vehicle, which the police circulated to nearby towns. It was not long before the vehicle in question was spotted and stopped by Essex Police.
The driver of the vehicle matched the witnesses' description and during the encounter with the Essex Police, he indicated that he "may have struck someone with his car", which led to his arrest, as detailed by Boston 25 News.
The investigation into what transpired that fateful night is still ongoing, while Rantoul Street, which had been closed due to the investigation, has since reopened at about 2 a.m. Monday. Charges against the driver have been pressed, although his identity remains under wraps pending the ongoing investigation.
