Chula Vista to Celebrate South Bay Earth Day with Grammy-Nominated Ozomatli and Eco-Friendly ActivitiesSource: City of Chula Vista

The city of Chula Vista is set to host its annual South Bay Earth Day extravaganza, and it's bringing some heavy-hitting entertainment to underscore its green message. Grammy-nominated L.A. band Ozomatli will be headlining the event, supported by Selena tribute band Dreaming of You on April 13, the city announced. The celebration, aimed at promoting sustainable living and environmental stewardship, boasts a slate of activities for the whole family, ensuring that attendees walk away not just entertained but educated as well.

From vendors like the American Lung Association to food trucks such as Salt N’ Pepper, the Earth Day celebration is shaping up to be a smorgasbord of eco-conscious consumer choices, according to the event's organizers. For those looking to commute sustainably, Chula Vista Bicycles will offer a free bike valet service, and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will serve Bayfront Park by bus, making it easier for visitors to arrive in an eco-friendly manner. The Port of San Diego, which presents the event, is set alongside the scenic views of Chula Vista Bayfront Park – where visitors can expect a combination of on-stage music and hands-on education.

Ozomatli, celebrating nearly three decades as a fusion force of various musical genres, has also been known to mix activism with its vibrant rhythms. The group's storied resume includes a stint as the house band for Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution and contributions to the soundtrack of the animated film HAPPY FEET 2. In a statement obtained by the City of Chula Vista, Mayor John McCann expressed pride in hosting the community event for a sixth year: "Our hope is to celebrate and promote our love for Sustainability, while providing a dynamic opportunity for attendees to learn about environmentally friendly lifestyles."

Adding to the festivities, an array of local organizations and sponsors are pitching in to support the Earth Day event, from the Otay Water District to Sweetwater Authority, with San Diego Community Power and Wyyerd Fiber helping to power the occasion, shared the City on Instagram. Every year, the gathering seems to swell, reflecting a growing commitment among the South Bay community to embrace practices that will benefit the planet and future generations.

South Bay Earth Day takes place on Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chula Vista Bayfront Park, 980 Marina Way.
