Colombian Mother Faces Heartache and Red Tape after Son Fatally Stabbed in Plantation LaundromatSource: Google Street View

A tragic scene unfolded in a Plantation laundromat as a Colombian woman's worst nightmare turned to reality, with her son Jesus David Gomez being fatally stabbed. The incident, which took a violent turn on Monday night along US 441, has left Diana Garcia bereft and grasping for justice from over 1,000 miles away. Garcia is struggling not only with her son's untimely death but also with the prospect of navigating international bureaucracy to bring her son's body home, as detailed in a report by NBC6 Miami.

The attack began in a parking lot behind the laundromat, where witnesses allege a group of individuals took to vandalizing Gomez's car. "Anywhere from 4-8 people, we don't know how many people it was, and these people was playing games and started hitting his car continuously, and he went off to ask for respect for his property," Julian Sierra, a friend of the victim, told NBC6. It is reported that after the confrontation escalated, Gomez sought refuge inside the laundromat where he was ultimately stabbed three times in the back.

Julian Sierra gave a harrowing account of the events that transpired stating, "One guy that he didn't see came in the back and stabbed him three times in his back," and continued to describe how one of the assailants proceeded to assault Gomez even after he had fallen to the ground. Gomez's wife, who witnessed the attack, tried to defend him and was herself attacked. According to the accounts, Gomez did not know his attackers.

As the Plantation Police Department remains silent on arrests, Garcia's hope rests on receiving a humanitarian visa to travel and claim her son's body, "I want to see him. I haven't seen him in eight years," she expressed, in a statement obtained by NBC6, following her son's pursuit of U.S. residency which kept them apart for nearly a decade. The family now is faced with the grim option of potentially receiving Gomez's remains in ashes should they be unable to travel.
