Fort Lauderdale residents should brace for some nighttime traffic disruptions as the city embarks on a sewer system upgrade. Starting Sunday, April 14, the City of Fort Lauderdale and Southern Underground Industries will begin a project to line a vital 18-inch gravity sewer main along Bayview Drive just north of Commercial Boulevard. The work is part of a plan to prolong the life of the current sewer infrastructure within the Landings neighborhood, aiming to complete the job by Wednesday, April 17.
The necessary construction is slated to happen between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday through Wednesday evening to minimize the impact on daily traffic. Residents should note that the left turn lane from southbound Bayview Drive to eastbound Commercial Boulevard will be closed overnight during these hours. However, traffic control personnel will be on duty to direct traffic, letting drivers know they can make the turn from the southbound through the lane.
Motorists in the area are cautioned to heed posted signs and drive carefully through the construction zone. The City of Fort Lauderdale urges the public to exercise patience as the work progresses, emphasizing that the schedule may shift due to bad weather or other unexpected events. These infrastructure improvements are essential for maintaining reliable sewer services for the community.
