Motorists in Fort Lauderdale should prepare for some late night detours as SE 6th Avenue, the Rio Vista Boulevard loop, and East Avenue are set to be off-limits this Thursday. The city is putting roads to bed, from 10 p.m. to the wee hours of 6 a.m., to gear up for milling and resurfacing operations. As these stretches snooze, drivers are instructed to bypass the area using alternative routes.
During the overnight closure, finding a street-side spot for your ride will be a no-go on SE 6th Avenue, N. Rio Vista Boulevard, and East Avenue. But not all is lost, as periodic access to parking lots on SE 6th Avenue will be kept alive. The detour plans, revealed by a City of Fort Lauderdale government release, will reroute traffic to SE 9th Avenue using SE 6th Street, SE 5th Court, or N. Rio Vista Boulevard as passageways.
Should plans hit a snag, Monday, May 6, is penciled in as a backup date for the roadwork. Given the unpredictable nature of construction, the extra cushion could come in handy.
