Fort Lauderdale's streets are set to close this Sunday for a good cause. The city will host the annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K on April 28, kicking off at 7:30 a.m. with start and finish lines near SW 1st Ave and E. Las Olas Boulevard. Advocates and participants will stride and sprint through the city in support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Drivers should be ready to adjust their Sunday plans as the event is expected to temporarily transform city traffic flows. According to the  City of Fort Lauderdale, SW 1st Avenue will be closed one block north of E. Las Olas Boulevard to accommodate the walkers and runners. The road closures will be a dynamic affair lasting approximately from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the possibility of delays as participants make their way through the race route.

The event is a signature fundraiser for MADD, which aims squarely at ending drunk driving, supporting the victims of these violent crimes, and preventing underage drinking.
