Framingham's quiet evening was disrupted last night as police rushed to the scene of reported gunfire near the 135 Restaurant & Lounge. Officers found the suspect uncooperative in his pickup truck on Bridges St. and had to shatter the vehicle’s window when he failed to comply with commands. This required the use of a less lethal shotgun in order to enable visual contact and facilitate communication.
Despite several warnings, the suspect continued to ignore officers and kept his hand hidden, raising concerns for the officers’ safety. The standoff escalated when a police K9 was deployed into the vehicle, leading the suspect to assault the dog multiple times before being subdued and arrested. The officers found a loaded weapon and extra ammunition in the suspect's possession, alongside ballistics from the original scene, as detailed on Framingham Police Department's Facebook page.
No one was hurt during the incident, including bystanders, but the suspect was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries before being released back to police custody, ensuring there was no longer any danger posed to the public. Charged with multiple firearms offenses and injuring a police service animal, the suspect's arraignment is scheduled for today.
In addition to the assault on the K9, the man faces charges for carrying a loaded firearm without a license, illegal possession of a large capacity feeding device and ammunition, receiving a firearm with a defaced number, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, the police confirmed. Disorderly conduct rounded out the list of offenses he would answer to before the courts.
