The transgender male shot in Hallandale Beach last week has succumbed to his injuries, local police confirmed. The victim, 36-year-old Latoya Arnold, was attacked early April 3 near a popular bowling alley in The Village at Gulfstream Park and was pronounced dead on Sunday.
Responding to calls at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers arrived at the 800 block of Silks Run to find Arnold with serious gunshot wounds, according to Local 10 News. After being rushed to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, Arnold's struggle ended tragically just days later.
While the case is stirring concerns in the community, Hallandale Beach Police Captain Aaron Smith has addressed the nature of the incident, "We don’t believe this was a hate crime," Smith said, "When we have incidents like this, we do our very best, and we do everything to keep our community safe," in a statement obtained by Local 10 News. Authorities have categorized the incident as isolated and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The search is on for a female suspect, whom police say was known to the victim. As the investigation continues, little information has been provided regarding the suspect or the specifics of the altercation between her and Arnold. Anyone with insights or information regarding the incident is strongly encouraged to step forward and contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477, as reported by NBC Miami.
