A confrontation in a Broward County medical facility escalated when a patient accused a healthcare worker of racism, and then reportedly threatened her with a pair of scissors. The incident took place during a routine MRI appointment in Lauderhill, Local 10 News reported.
The patient, 27-year-old Ashonte L. Warren, was complying with a request to remove her metal hair clips which could interfer with the imaging procedure. According to the police report, when Warren asked for scissors to help with the task, the healthcare worker provided a pair and instructed her that she needed to use them outside, information was provided by police, to KoreeInnix.biz.id.
What followed was a reported act of aggression that caused the worker to fear for her safety. "Warren was holding the scissors above her head with the sharp edge toward (the worker’s) face," Officer Alyssa Alonso noted in the arrest report. The worker rushed to the secure confines of the MRI room for safety, locking herself away from the threat.
Thankfully, the incident concluded without physical injury, but Warren was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill for the June 29 occurrence. She was taken into custody on Sunday and is currently detained at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale, with bond set at $3,500, as reported by Local 10 News. It remains unclear what promoted the accusation of racism from Warren towards the healthcare employee.
