Residents of Winston Park, a community celebrated for its peace and safety, were struck by a surge of fear after a stabbing incident left a man critically wounded and a suspect on the loose. NBC Miami reported that the violence unfolded on Saturday afternoon near a local nature trail, which later became a hub for extensive police activity.
Following the attack, law enforcement kicked off a manhunt, with officers from multiple agencies combing through the thickets of the Winston Park Nature Preserve. Despite the increased police presence and the involvement of K9 units and officers armed with long guns, the perpetrator managed to evade capture. The search that pressed on into the evening ultimately proved futile, as "The search of the wooded area in the Winston Park Nature Preserve is over. The stabbing suspect was not in the woods. The victim remains in the hospital. The crime scene is now being processed. The investigation is ongoing,” according to the Coconut Creek Police Department's post on X.
The neighborhood, normally bustling with the laughter of children, was left unsettled as residents grappled with the stark departure from their usual day-to-day. "There’s a lot of kids that play outside here,” Daniella Locascio, a resident, expressed to NBC Miami. Michael Constanzo, another local, described the sequence of the day's harrowing events, confirming the suspect's escape into the preserve directly adjoining their homes.
The victim of the stabbing was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, still in critical condition. While the motive behind the stabbing is currently under wraps, investigators are confident in ruling out a random assault. Anxiety permeates the community, with neighbors keenly aware of the danger that now lurks, possibly closer than any would care to admit. Michael Constanzo's concerns were captured by NBC Miami as he pleaded, "That’s not good. That will be a very bad thing. I hope they find them very quickly.”
As the authorities continue their investigation, processing the crime scene and following leads, they urge the public to come forward with any information that could aid in apprehending the suspect. Tips can be shared by calling 954-973-6700, as noted in a post from the Coconut Creek Police Department on X.
