A clerk at a North Lauderdale Kwik Stop was pepper-sprayed at close range through a gap in the store's glass-enclosed checkout area after a dispute over a receipt earlier this month, and investigators are still trying to identify who did it. The Broward Sheriff's Office says the confrontation happened around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Kwik Stop located at 7120 Kimberly Blvd.
Detectives say the incident began as an argument between the clerk and a customer over a receipt, according to the Miami Herald. Store surveillance video reportedly shows the person reaching through an opening in the checkout enclosure, an area that is normally restricted to employees, before deploying the spray directly at the clerk, as reported by Boca Post.
Distinctive Tattoo Could Be Key to Identification
Investigators are relying heavily on one physical detail caught on camera: the person seen spraying the clerk has a tattoo covering the entirety of the right forearm, per the same report. The Miami Herald's account similarly describes tattoos covering the person's entire right arm, a detail BSO is hoping someone in the community will recognize.
The investigation remains active, with BSO North Lauderdale detectives still working the case.
How to Submit a Tip
BSO is asking anyone who recognizes the person from the surveillance footage, or who has any information about the incident, to come forward. Tips can be directed to BSO North Lauderdale Detective Jacob Pincus at 954-597-4779.
