Miami-Dade Animal Services Nets $5,000 Grant to Offer Preventative Care for Pets of Public Assistance RecipientsSource: Google Street View

Miami-Dade County Animal Services has landed a $5,000 Community Care Grant from Banfield Foundation, aimed at ensuring furry friends get the preventative care they desperately require. The funds from the foundation, dedicated to the welfare of pets in need, will be used to purchase vaccines for Animal Services' Wellness Clinic. This clinic provides discounted services to Miami-Dade County residents presently receiving public benefits, as reported on April 15.

To qualify for these life-saving services, pet owners need to prove that they receive Federal Assistance; options include, but not limited to, Food Stamps, Medicaid, and SSI. These individuals can, therefore, access care packages that hardly break the bank - for dogs, they range from $25 to $70, while cat lovers can protect their companions for a mere $30. The support from Banfield Foundation is set to significantly bolster Animal Services' efforts to comprehensively protect the health of these animals.

Discounted packages at Animal Services differentiate to suit various needs. For dogs, the Core Vaccine package includes Rabies, Bordetella, and DHPP vaccines for $25. Adding a microchip kicks the price to $40, while full wellness and sterilization, which throws in spay/neuter surgery, caps at $70. Cats aren't left behind, with a $30 package offering Rabies and FVRCP vaccinations, along with that precious microchip. According to a statement on the Miami-Dade County website, these efforts are all part of a mission to find enduring homes for the roughly 30,000 to 36,000 animals the department takes in annually.

Pet owners struggling to locate documentation still have an avenue for assistance through an email to [email protected]. The Banfield Foundation, ever since its inception in 2015, has strived to provide preventive care and facilitate medical aid for pets through grants and partnerships. An extension of Mars Veterinary Health, Banfield taps into this network to administer care in crises and enable veterinary professionals to deliver vital attention to those pets and people left most vulnerable.
