A Miami man is behind bars, facing second-degree murder charges after a lethal altercation with his roommate over a mere dollar bill escalated dramatically early on Friday, police reports detailed. The arrested suspect, identified as 36-year-old Brandon Carlos Grant, reportedly became embroiled in a deadly dispute at their Northwest 77th Street apartment which authorities believe led to the victim's tragic fate.
Officers responding to a distress call about a possible fight between roommates discovered Grant lying on the sidewalk, his gray hoodie stained with blood, following the conflict that broke out shortly after 5 a.m., as Local10.com reported, while Grant's inability to breathe and pleas for water were documented in the arrest report, along with his admission, he “became enraged when the victim would not give him a dollar.”
Upon entering the apartment, law enforcement officials were confronted with the grim scene of Grant's roommate, unresponsive and appearing to have suffered blunt force trauma to the face – later, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene by the City of Miami Fire Rescue, as detailed by authorities.
In a chilling confession that has since been made partly public, the suspect waived his Miranda rights explaining to investigators his violent reaction prompted by the refusal of the deceased to hand over a single dollar, and as the situation escalated, the victim had pleaded for Grant to desist, warned at one point "because he was going to kill him," as reported by Newscollection.lighting.
