The accident occurred just south of Exit 48, West Yamato Road, forcing the closure of all southbound lanes, which later reopened to allow flow through the right lane.

According to CBS12, the collision was first reported around 4 a.m., and Florida Highway Patrol confirms there were injuries sustained in the crash. The details of the injuries or the condition of those involved have not been disclosed as of yet. The heavy presence of emergency personnel and investigators on the scene suggests a serious investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

Travelers were advised to seek alternative routes as delays were expected to continue into the morning commute. By 4:42 a.m., an update from the Florida 511 X account confirmed that the accident had completely closed all lanes before they were partially opened. Although the congestion began to ease, the impact of this early morning collision might ripple throughout the day's traffic patterns, with the right southbound lane remaining the only passable route.
