Murfreesboro Police Hunt for Suspected Bank Fraud Crime Ring After Recent Credit Union TheftsSource: Murfreesboro Police Department

Murfreesboro's finest are on the heels of what could be a sophisticated bank fraud crime ring after incidents of fraudulent withdrawals from local credit unions have unleashed a stream of investigative endeavors by the Murfreesboro Police Department. The swindlers concocted a web of fake IDs and purloined personal account information to extract a small fortune from unwitting bank customers.

The most recent theft was executed with a crafty finesse that unfortunately, was on display on April 18, confirmed by the authorities. An unidentified fraudster walked into Redstone Federal Credit Union on Medical Center Parkway, brandishing a fake driver's license that featured his likeness above another person's name and credentials. He withdrew $9,000 through multiple deceitful transactions. According to FOX 17, the victim, an Alabama resident, hastened to close the breached account upon the grim discovery.

A separate event, recorded by police on April 15, showed a different man with two different fraudulent IDs carrying out a similar ploy. His photo was on the IDs which bore the personal data of two distinct victims. He efficiently siphoned $7,700 from the two accounts at RFCU's S. Rutherford Blvd. and Medical Center branches.

The fraudulent creative license used to produce such convincing forgeries eluded initial detection. "Since the IDs were so well produced, there were no red flags that the transactions were fraudulent," sighed Public Safety Public Information Officer Larry Flowers, to WSMV, revealing the troubling reality of the con men's proficiency. The investigation is pressing forward as the search for the perpetrators continues.

Investigators urge anyone with information about the adept criminals to step forward. Assistance, they hope, can lead to the unmasking of the scammers who rested easy under the guise of falsified identities.
