Nashville Man, Diontae Thompson, Charged with Attempted Homicide After Shooting Ex-Girlfriend’s New PartnerSource: Metro Nashville Police Department

A Nashville man with a history of felony convictions has been cuffed on multiple charges after police said he shot his ex-girlfriend's new flame, authorities confirmed. Diontae Thompson, a 34-year-old ex-convict, is facing a barrage of charges including attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

According to the WKRN report, Thompson was apprehended on Tuesday after a physical altercation that culminated in him shooting the man in the foot. Post the violent incident, the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, grappled with Thompson, attempting to gain control of the weapon. It was during this struggle that Thompson allegedly pistol-whipped the victim after pointing the gun at his head, which fortunately malfunctioned.

Metro Nashville Police Department officials stated Thompson forced his way into an apartment on 14th Avenue North, leading to the altercation. Fast-acting detectives from MNPD’s North Precinct swiftly issued 11 warrants for Thompson's arrest, as FOX 17 News covered in their publication.

Thompson was discovered by law enforcement in the passenger seat of a Nissan Maxima during a traffic stop on Candlewood Drive. Officers retrieved a handgun from the vehicle, thus resulting in an additional charge of being a felon in possession of a handgun. "He was booked on his ten outstanding warrants and additionally charged with being a felon in possession of a handgun," police said, according to WSMV.
