Early Saturday morning, Nashville was disrupted by gunfire, claiming the life of one man and leaving another injured in the fray. Christopher Cheeks, a 32-year-old man, was fatally shot at 2:30 a.m. in an alleyway snaked between Hayes and Church Streets. The Nashville Police Department is on the trail of substantial leads following the incident, according to a statement obtained by Nashville.gov.

As three men began mingling with Cheeks and his friends, their evening's casual tenor was struck by violence. The second victim, a 29-year-old man who has yet to be named, recounted the moment their cordial gathering was shattered by attempted robbery and fatal shots, as he too was hit. Running off in a desperate attempt to evade further harm, Cheeks and his friends scattered into the dark, seeking refuge from their assailants.

The injured victim stumbled upon Church Street, where he was quickly found and rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His wounds were addressed, and he survived the encounter. Cheeks, however, was discovered in the parking garage of the Hayes Street Hotel, he was transported to the same hospital but succumbed to his injuries, and he was pronounced dead.

No further injuries were reported from the incident. With the suspects still at large and Nashville Police Department is calling on the public's aid. Anyone with knowledge about the shooting is implored to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, according to the authorities.
