Chaos struck a quiet Brockton street when a pickup truck barreled into the side of a residential home, leaving a gaping hole and a shaken community in its wake. The startling incident, which unfolded yesterday afternoon at the corner of Belmont and Hamilton Streets, is under investigation as authorities seek to piece together the moments leading up to the crash.
Homeowner Belaja Eloisy received a frantic call from his mother as the chaos ensued, she informed him that their house had just become the unintended target of the rogue vehicle, "The first thing that went through my mind is everybody ok you know," Eloisy related, in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News. Upon confirming his father's safety, who was in the house at the time of the incident the next step was an embrace, a silent affirmation that life, unharmed, held more weight than any structural damage.
Reports from Boston.com indicate the collision occurred just after 4 p.m., shaking not only the foundation of the building at 255 Belmont St. but also the nerves of every resident within. According to the fire department, no injuries were reported despite the severity of the damage. Immediate efforts by firefighters aimed to reinforce the compromised foundation to safely extricate the pickup truck.
In an interview with Boston 25, a neighbor recounted just returning from work, to find his abode’s security and stability violated "After 10 minutes I was there - whoa," he said, capturing the shock rippling through the multifamily home as the realization of the close call settled in. Brockton Deputy Chief Kevin Galligan explained that emergency crews were quick to act, “The FF’s are stabilizing and putting a temp shoring up into the basement so we can pull the vehicle away from the building and allow the occupants to occupy the building.”
The sentiment of gratitude pervaded the event's aftermath; Eloisy expressed profound thanks to the first responders making a point of the community's appreciation, “I just want to shake every one of their hands to tell them how much we appreciate them and we love them and thank them for what they are doing for the community,” he told Boston 25 News.
