A 48-year-old Pompano Beach woman, Kendra Howells, reported missing since March 28, tragically passed away at a local hospital last week, the Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday. Howells, who was last seen in the vicinity of the 3500 block of Oaks Way, was the subject of a missing persons alert initiated on April 4, one day before her death was pronounced. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Miranda Grossman, the alert was enacted after confirmation that Howells had not been seen for days was received.
Detectives learned of Howells' demise on March 29, thus cutting short the window typically afforded to nurturing hopes for a safe return. “Since issuing the alert, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives learned Howells died on Friday, March 29, at an area hospital,” Grossman stated in a press release acquired by Local 10 News. While initial assessments indicate no suspicion of foul play, Howells' untimely passing has been placed under the scrutiny of the agency’s Homicide Unit to untangle any potential circumstances that led to such an unforeseen outcome.
Amidst grief and questions, the precise cause and manner of Howells' passing remain under investigation, pending conclusions by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office. It's not uncommon for a thorough examination to follow in the wake of such occurrences, particularly to provide closure for bereaved family and friends left grappling with ambiguity.
The scant details surrounding the abrupt disappearance and death of Howells have left many in the community unsettled. In earnest efforts to forge clarity, the Sheriff's Office circulated descriptive information about Kendra's last known whereabouts and appearance, as relayed through a post on X on April 5. She was reported to have been wearing a maroon blouse, blue jeans, and black Vans slides. Local authorities continue to encourage anyone with any information to step forward and contact 954-764-HELP (4357), an opportunity to possibly shed light on the somber mystery that now envelopes this community.
